Stockwell Day was not deterred by blustery winds during the official groundbreaking for the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Technologies and Renewable Energy Conservation at the Penticton campus of Okanagan College.

“The Government’s investment in the college is a significant economic stimulus to the community that will generate employment in the region.”

Representatives from the Provincial Government and the Okanagan College Foundation were on hand to acknowledge the new opportunities the centre will bring for students and the impact it will have on the entire South Okanagan.

The College is responsible for providing $5 million and the Federal and Provincial governments,  $23 Million. Jim Henderson is leading the fundraising campaign on behalf of the Foundation and noted that donations have picked up since the beginning of fall.

Site preparations have begun for the project, which will provide about 180 jobs during construction.
