Minister Day meets with U.S. Administration Officials and Members of U.S. Congress

OTTAWA — Today, the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, issued the following statement following his meeting with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, and members of the U.S. Congress. The meetings with administration officials and members of both the Senate and House of Representatives were part of a two-day visit on security and border-related issues.

During the visit to Washington D.C., the Minister met with:

  • Senator Susan Collins, Ranking, Senate Homeland Security Committee
  • Congressman John Conyers, Chair, House Judiciary Committee
  • Senator Patrick Leahy, Chairman, Senate Judiciary Committee
  • Senator Joe Lieberman, Chairman, Senate Homeland Security Committee
  • Senator Charles Schumer
  • Congresswoman Louise Slaughter
  • Congressman Bennie Thompson, Chairman, House Homeland Security Committee
“I was pleased to meet with Secretary Chertoff, Attorney General Gonzales, and distinguished members of the newly elected House of Representatives and Senate. It provided an opportunity to discuss security and other issues of mutual interest with leaders in both the Administration and Congress.
